A Road for All Seasons
A Tribute to Britain
By Harry Bucknall

After more than a decade of keeping his fans waiting Harry Bucknall has finally rewarded their patience by publishing his third travel book, A Road for All Seasons – A Tribute to Britain, an account of his four-stage, 6,500 miles exploration of the United Kingdom.

His first book, In the Dolphin’s Wake, described his 5,500 miles journey from Venice to Istanbul in 2006, while his second, Like a Tramp, Like a Pilgrim, covered his remarkable 1,400 miles trek on foot from London to Rome in 2012.

With his new book Harry has once again demonstrated that he is a master of observation and that he can challenge his readers with profound topics, as well as entertain us with humorous anecdotes and descriptions of the emotional highs and lows that he experienced during his excursions in less well-known corners of our homeland.

Harry clearly loves Britain with every bone in his body and everything in and about this book reflects that love.  It’s beautiful cover (by James Lewis), the excellent hand-drawn maps (by Lachlan Campbell) and the delightful illustrations in the text (by Gary Partridge, a fellow Coldstreamer) all combine with the travelogue to create a charming and memorable ensemble.

If you are looking for a book that will make you ponder Britain’s past, present and future and that will often make you laugh out loud, I cannot recommend A Road for All Seasons too highly.  Where will Harry take us next?  Time alone will tell, but we will be impatient to discover where it will be.
